Casket Selection & Burial Options
Beechwood’s unrivalled park-like landscape accommodates many types of traditional or specialized burial (interment) locations. Beechwood’s large land reserves ensure casket burial will be available for generations to come.
Casket Selection & Burial Options
Beechwood offers families a wide range of caskets, suitable for cremation or burial. Even if cremation is selected for final disposition of the remains, a casket may be present during visitation, informal gatherings or other commemorative events. Caskets made of all types of wood, steel or cloth, as well as enviro options, can be selected. Interiors are made of a wide range of fabrics, including satin, velvet, crepe and linen.
Protective Burial Vault
For families choosing in-ground casket burial, many select a protective burial vault. A burial vault is a lined and sealed outer receptacle that houses the casket. It protects the casket from the weight of the earth and heavy maintenance equipment that will pass over the grave. It also helps resist water and preserves the beauty of the cemetery by preventing the ground from settling.
Beechwood has a selection of vaults with varying features from which a family may choose.
Casket Burial Options
For casket burial (interment), Beechwood offers a broad range of location choices, either in-ground or above-ground. For example, the Stations of the Cross, which is landscaped with large black monuments etched with an artist’s depiction of the 14 Stations of the Cross, houses many burial plots of differing sizes to meet the needs of families well into the future.
Single-Grave and Two-Grave (Double) Lots
These are available in numerous sections throughout the Cemetery. Beechwood offers single graves and two-grave lots, or double lots, which can accommodate caskets only, urns only, or combinations of caskets and urns. A single grave can accommodate up to two caskets and eight urns. A two-grave lot, or double lot, can accommodate up to four caskets and sixteen urns.
Family Estate Lots
Beechwood offers an array of lot sizes to accommodate a family’s future needs for multiple casket burials, cremation burials or combinations of casket and cremation burials. As well, these larger locations provide more space for the creation of a unique or larger monument…often, an economical choice for a location that will ultimately serve a larger number of family members.
Beechwood also offers outdoor crypts for those who prefer above-ground entombment. These structures are placed in historic areas of the cemetery and are constructed from materials that will last for centuries.
Beechwood has locations available for families who wish to custom build mausoleums for as few as two interments to as many as a family may require.
Of historical note and architectural interest…
While there is no space available in this structure, it is widely recognized as one of the most magnificent mausoleums in Canada and worthy of a visit. Upon entering the mausoleum, a set of stately and seemingly impervious bronze chapel doors majestically open to reveal towering vaulted ceilings, exquisite glass and marble niches, and glorious stained-glass windows. Once inside the mausoleum, there are 546 crypts where a number of Canada’s prominent citizens of the past are entombed, including William McDougall, (1822-1905), one of the Fathers of Confederation.
