It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of the much beloved Roberta Mary Longbottom (née Neale), in this her 91st year.  She died peacefully, at home, surrounded by her family, a family of which she was immensely proud.

Known fondly as Bobbie, she leaves behind her loving husband of 64 years, Roy Longbottom, daughter Susan (Pierre Ricard) and son David (Carrie Colton).   She was a fiercely proud grandma to Zachary Colton, Martin Ricard (Victoria) and Marie Pier Ricard (Xavier).  Great grandma to Florence, Edmond, Liam and Mikayla.

Bobbie was born in Barrie, but Ottawa was home for 85 of her 91 years.   She was a true community builder, a person who gave herself and her precious time selflessly to the betterment of others.   When she saw a need, she met it, and when she saw a gap, she filled it, choosing action over words each and every time.   Summer camps, Sunday schools, public schools, Girl Guides, army regiments, tennis clubs and political parties alike all benefited from Bobbie's initiative and work ethic, and were left better off for it.

Friends and family are invited to attend a remembrance service at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church at 125 MacKay St, Ottawa on Wednesday, May 8th at 11AM, with a reception to follow. It is street parking only around St. Bartholomew’s so please allow yourselves plenty of extra time (30 mins) to find a spot.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bobbie's honour can be made to a community cause of your choosing.

My Mom and Dad were great friends with Bobbie and Roy Longbottom. I remember first meeting her when I was just a kid, I went to their home with my father on some Regimental business. My sincere condolences to Col. Roy Longbottom and the whole family.

My sincere sympathies to LCol Roy Longbottom and family. I knew Bobbie well from serving in the GGFG and the GGFG Officers’ Mess. She set such a great example to many of us not only as the Commanding Officer’s wife but as a strong woman, a well mannered lady who mentored many of us. I am so grateful to have known her. She will be missed.

My most sincere condolences in the passing of Bobbie. Our recent meeting at the pub reminiscing with names and activities during the mid 70's and shortly after was a most pleasant evening. It is clear that Bobbie was a key figure in supporting the LCC at the time and certainly she made a big and positive impression, leaving a lasting legacy. I'm saddened for your loss, but am sure many great memories will remain prior to us all meeting again.
