(1927 – 2020)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Georges Elias Karam on Saturday September 19, 2020 at the age of 93 years.
Beloved husband and best friend of the late Saide Hanna Karam.
Devoted and loving father of Lodi (Elia Nassrallah), Raghida (Issam El-Chakieh), Elie (Isabelle Laviolette), Joumana (Dr. Bassam Nassrallah), Fouad, and Antoine (Rana Farah). Predeceased by his sisters Laurice, Georgette, Jeanette, Amal and his brother Maurice, all of Lebanon. Survived by his brother Nabil Karam of Lebanon. Brother-in-law of the late Fayez, late V. Rev. Emile, late Yvette (Dabaghi), late Samir and late George Hanna.
He will be eternally loved and missed by his 18 grandchildren: Shadi, J.D. Daniel (Michelle) and J.D. Georges (Erica); Maya and Rita El-Chakieh; Alicia (Nicolas Lefebvre), Georges, and Alexie-Anne Karam; Dr. Georges, Wissam, Jihan and Emmanuel Nassrallah; Dr. Alyssa, Dr. Andrew and Alexandre Karam; and Christopher, Cecilia and Celina Karam.
He will be sorely missed by his great-grandchildren Eli and Ava Nassrallah; Elodie Lefebvre; and Noah Nassrallah.
Georges will be fondly remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family, as well as his steadfast integrity, strength, and courage. Georges exemplified a lifelong passion for fairness and justice, and he was especially proud to be a Canadian. Prior to immigrating to Canada, Georges served with the Lebanese Internal Security Forces and retired after 30 years of service.
Since the year 2017, Georges has been an inspiration to families affected by the shortfalls of long-term care regimes across Canada and the world, and his widely reported matter has served as one of the principal catalysts to promote systemic change. His closest family members and friends were blessed to have shared Georges’ remarkable life and to have received his everlasting love, and they will continue to advance his legacy in his honour.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, immediate family will be holding a private wake, funeral service, and entombment.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Charbel Maronite Church and the Alzheimer Society of Canada in Georges’ memory would be appreciated.
