Passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019. Predeceased by her husband Fred B. Smith as well as many siblings. Rita will be missed by her sisters Thérèse Chassé of Maine and Nicole (Richard) Condon of Connecticut, brother-in-law Ken (Engel) Smith, late Alan (Doreen) Smith, close family Denise (Daniel) Cadieux, Louise (John) Berryman, Céline (Dean) Buzza, Jacques (Louise) Aubut , Cheryl Smith, Marie-Andrée Cadieux (Sylvain Hardy), and Jean-Benoit Cadieux (Émie Sarault-Robitaille) as well as many other nieces, nephews, great grand kids and extended family. A heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Ottawa General Hospital and the Royal Garden Retirement Residence. Friends and family are invited to visit at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Ave., on Friday, November 1st from 10 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service in the Sacred Space at 11 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Blood Services.

Rita was a very dear friend of mine for 68 years. I was honoured to be a bridesmaid at her and Fred's wedding. I always enjoyed our conversations. She listened to me when I needed to talk. Rita and Fred were very caring people. I have many happy memories of our times together. I will miss her terribly.
Rita was my next door neighbour for my entire childhood. She loved my sister and I and often had us over. She and Fred were often sitting out front and welcomed us when we got home from school. She always kept a watchful eye out for us and the other kids on the street. I have so many special memories of her and she will be greatly missed xo
