Betty passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the May Court Hospice, Ottawa, after a brief battle with cancer.

Betty Owen (née McGowan) was the beloved wife of the late David Owen, partner to the late George Anannd and special friend of Reg Albright.  She was the loving mother of Kevin (Lynne), Terry and Glenn (Patricia Therien).  Betty adored her grandchildren Kaitlyn Fontaine (Patrick) and Mitchell (Leah).  She welcomed two great grandchildren last year: Sophie and Lily.  She was sister to Ken McGowan (Claudette) and the late Sue Port.  Loving aunt of Tyler, Jill and Jeff, Susie and Bobby. Predeceased by her parents Kenneth McGowan and Claire DuBois.

Betty was an avid golfer and member of the Metcalfe Golf Club where she spent hours on the course and made many friends there.  She loved spending time looking after her beautiful gardens at home, when she was not out on the course.

In the winter, time was spent at the RCMP and RA Curling Clubs.  She enjoyed quilting for many years with a great group of friends and despite limited vision in her later years, was able to make quilts for the arrival of her great grandbabies.

Betty enjoyed many different physical activities over the years, including downhill skiing, and receiving her Bronze Medallion for swimming and lifesaving.  In 1981 and 1982 she ran the Avon International Marathon.

Betty loved traveling and visited Hawaii, Alaska, Scotland and New Zealand to name a few spots.

The family wishes to thank Chapel Hill Retirement Home, 5th Floor East Wing General Hospital and particularly the wonderful care and compassion at May Court Hospice.

The family will receive condolences on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026 starting from 11:00am at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm in the Sacred Space of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre with interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery.

Donations are welcomed in Betty’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society and/or May Court Hospice.
