Margaret Floretta (Martin) Miller, aged 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2024. She was born on August 31, 1935, to Oscar and Florence (England) Martin.

Marg was predeceased by her loving husband Donald. She was also predeceased by her older siblings: brothers Ralph, William, and Harold, and her sisters Dorothy, and Catherine. She is survived by her daughter Dale Miller (Jim Gauvreau), her sons Bradley Miller (Barb), and Stephen Miller (Rachel), and grandchildren David Miller and Alex Miller.

Marg grew up in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia and met Don in Halifax, where they were married in 1955. As they were a military family, Margaret and family would spend the next 26 years moving across Air Force bases in Canada and to Europe (France). After Don’s retirement from the military, the family settled in Ottawa, where they resided for the past 44 years.

Marg was a curler, hiker and sometimes golfer (and walker of golf courses) and a nature walker of Mud Lake, all visitors had to walk it with her when they came for a visit. She was an avid traveler that started with their weeks-long summer vacations traveling around Europe with two young children, with the family camping equipment, all tightly packed in to a little blue Renault. In their retirement years, they were pioneers in the movement of turning a cargo van into a camper van with their golf clubs in tow, taking the van all over North America. While they made many extended trips, they always spent considerable time every summer visiting their favorite places and family in the Maritimes.

Marg had a curious mind and very keen interest in everything and everyone she met, we would always hear their life stories afterwards.  She also had a mischievous side where she could be found trying to determine what exactly was in that Christmas present (weeks before Christmas) or slowly taking ice cream from the container under the theory that no one would notice.

We would like to thank Stirling Park Residence, special mention to Nissa and her team and all the friends she made there.  In addition, we would like to thank all her friends in the Ravines Residence, and the 3rd floor Care Nurses and PSW staff for their good care and bringing out her smiles and laughter.

Lastly, special appreciation to her care companions, Ava (Spectrum Health Care), and Joanne & Shane (Seniors Solution), for making our mother’s last years very social, stimulating, and the very best they could be.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Humane Society https://ottawahumane.ca would be appreciated.

The family of Margaret Miller invites family and friends to Margaret’s urn interment ceremony, at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 19at the Beechwood Cemetery, in their National Military Cemetery, located at 280 Beechwood Ave.  All attending are to arrive 15 min. ahead of ceremony (at 12:45 pm) at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre.

Following the ceremonies, a short drive down Beechwood Avenue will be a gathering at the Clocktower Brew Pub in the heart of New Edinburgh, at 422 MacKay St.
