The Guty family is sad to announce the peaceful passing of Vladimir “Wally” Guty on March 16, 2025. Wally was the loving husband of Marilyn for 62 years. He was the caring father of Tania (Tony) and Allan (Jelena). He treasured his grandchildren, Lara (Thomas), Fletcher, Margaret and Ruby Jane.

Wally was born on March 6, 1936, and raised on a small farm in Hearst, Ontario. As a boy, he would drive a dog sled to school in the day and listen to the Toronto Maple Leafs or Brooklyn Dodgers games on the radio at night.

When Wally was a teenager, he left the farm for Toronto and graduated from the Ryerson Institute of Technology and then joined the National Research Council, Gas Dynamics, where he worked for 35 years. Wally took his fashion cues from no one. His signature look was all his own and that included thick red wool socks with dress shoes.

Knowing the value and impact of words, he was always measured with his own. He was independent minded, fiercely loyal to his family and friends and always lived by his word. He was a builder, a fixer, award-winning maple syrup producer, a world traveller and a steward of the forest.

Wally requested no service at this time. A graveside service will take place later this spring. Family and friends are invited to leave a condolence message by clicking the "Sign Digital Guestbook" tab on the left of this page.

Donations in Wally’s memory may be made to the Ancient Forest Alliance or Dying with Dignity.

It’s like a magnificent, sacred tree collapsed in the forest.

What a man, what a man, what a mighty fine man. We loved him dearly and he loved us back and that was a gift. Our heartfelt condolences to you Marilyn, my dear special friend and to your loving family who have helped you through such a loss. Yes, it is as though a mighty tree has fallen and it will leave a hole in the forest forever. Love to you and yours, Darlene and Lew.

I only knew Wally for a short time, though I knew members of his immediate and extended family for decades. He was an incredible human being. Thoughtful, insightful, hard working, gentle, loving…I could go on! Everyone here at the Minto Pool & Fitness Centre will miss him greatly.

A soft spoken, and kind man who enjoyed a good chat and cheering for theToronto Maple Leafs. I will never forget how delicious your homemade waffles were topped off with your delicious maple syrup! Im thankful we reconnected in the last few years, i will always treasure our family’s memories, and think of you as I walk among the trees. Rest in Peace dear Uncle Wally.

Sorry for your loss, Marilyn and family. Although I never got to know Wally that well, life and living got in the way, we shared common interests. The forest, maple syrup and nature in general. I missed the chance to really get to know a unique person. My loss. May you find comfort in family and memories.

Dear Marilyn, Tania, Allan and Lara,
I know how much Wally was loved by all of you, his friends and family and my mum. He will be sorely missed. I treasure my memories of him and especially a visit in the summer of 2023 sitting together in your beautiful garden. I was the lucky recipient of some of his maple syrup via my mum's stash! She never failed to say "Wally's award-winning maple syrup!"
Thinking of you all and sending my love.
