It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. John Edward Kindle on July 23, 2025, surrounded by his three loving daughters. He was a devoted father and grandfather, a compassionate physician, an inspiring mentor, and a cherished member of his community.

For more than 50 years, Dr. Kindle dedicated his life to medicine, treating each patient with kindness, dignity, and exceptional care. Whether working in hospital wards or welcoming patients to his family practice, he was known not only for his clinical expertise but for his humour, warmth, and unwavering empathy.

A proud graduate of Queen’s University’s Faculty of Medicine, Dr. John fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. His passion for helping others shaped every aspect of his work and endeared him to colleagues and countless patients. Beyond his practice, he made a lasting impact through medical seminars, volunteer work, and working in community health clinics. He leaves behind a legacy of care and compassion.

Outside of his professional life, John was a man of many joys. He was a supportive father and grandfather, he loved comedy, music, travel and fishing, and was a caring friend to many. His laughter and humour lit up dinners with family and friends, his wisdom comforted troubled hearts, and his guidance and advice touched those he met.

He is survived by his sister, Penelope McIntosh; his brother, Dr. Geoff (Lorraine) Kindle; his three daughters and their spouses - Tricia (Vijay) Chand, Carline (Justin) Rocks, Christina (Gareth) Pocock and his six cherished grandchildren: Mikayla, Harrison, Scarlett, Phoenix, Miles, and Edwyn, who adored him.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and care teams that provided incredible support over the last few years, including those at the OGH Cancer Clinic and the care providers at La Maison de l’Est hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dr. Kindle to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation or La Maison de l’Est hospice would be welcome.

A memorial service will be held at Beechwood Cemetery on September 6 at 1pm, followed by a reception until 4pm to honour a life beautifully lived. Kindly RSVP to drjohncelebration@gmail.com to help us plan accordingly. We also invite you to share any memories or photos, which will be cherished and shared with all who loved him.

My sincere condolences to John's family and friends.

We met for the Cabo fishing trip last November for the first time... John won the "TOP ROD" award for the largest fish in Cabo (Monster Blue Marlin). Proudly many of us watched him bring it in smiling ear to ear! I will miss his bright smile and candid humor very much... We will all honor you this year in Cabo25.
RIP Dr. John

Such sad news. I first met John in 1973 when he was starting his practice and I joined the foreign service after graduating from McGill. A warm and generous provider of assistance, and a kind word whenever it was needed. John accepted my wife and son as patients when they first came to Canada. We loved him and he took such good care of us. We will miss him.

It is with great sadness to hear the news of Dr. John’s passing. Chris and I were blessed to have shared a wonderful friendship with him for the past 26 years. He was not only our doctor, but also our friend and business partner. Dr. John was a kind, generous, and often very funny man. You will be deeply missed, Dr. John.
