It is with deep sorrow we inform you of the death of Norman Kyle peacefully at home August 7, 2025 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Sussex, New Brunswick, July 11, 1936 the seventh and last child of Frank and Margaret Kyle. Preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, Christina, Lenora, Fred, Ron, Raymond and Robert, he leaves as well a large extended family scattered across Canada.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Flemming, his son Brian (Maria Perrella) and his daughter, Natasha (Jonathan Singer) and four marvellous grandchildren, Alec, Sara, Bennett and Lauren. He was so proud of his two children and dearly loved his grandchildren.
Raised in Sussex, NB, a child of World War II, he joined the militia (8th Hussars) but chose to join the RCMP following a speech by an RCMP officer at his high school describing the Mountie career.
Initially posted in Kentville, NS, he was subsequently transferred to Halifax and then Toronto when he was moved to the security service leaving the uniform side for the rest of his career. He joined CSIS when it was created in 1984 retiring as Deputy Director General in 1992. Interestingly, he was a part of the embryonic group focused on counter-terrorism which is now a major focus of the intelligence community.
Following his retirement he joined Transport Canada for a four year stint before finally packing it in.
Always a hard worker, Norm also knew how to have fun as anyone who knew him would attest. With his easy going personality and super sense of humour, he was liked wherever he went.
A life-long outdoor enthusiast, Norm camped, cross country skied and managed a 10-15 mile run most days while completing countless marathons.
Although he left the Maritimes physically, he never left psychologically and was a proud New Brunswicker until the day he died. Loving the area he enjoyed our summer home on the Bay of Fundy where he was able to stay in touch with family particularly his sister, Teeny, who died at age 96.
Norm will be greatly missed by his wife, his children and grandchildren as well as all who knew him.
We love you Normie!
A celebration of life will be held in the fall.

I am so sorry to hear of Norm’s passing Jeannie. What a kind soul he was and I will always remember his sense of humour. And he was always conversant on a broad range of topics and current issues. The world, at least my world, will never be the same knowing that he was never far away. He will make great counsel to those in his next iteration of life. I’m so glad to have known Norm and he enriched my life. John

I used to visibly notice the change in my father (your brother) Ray when you were by his side. You guys were so close and it brought out the better half of both of you.
You will be missed by all!

Sad to know that another of our Sussex High School graduate passed away. So glad he attended our 60th Reunion in July 2015. We certainly missed him at our 70th this past June, only nine graduates attended at All Seasons. From all of us we extend our sincere sympathies to all the families.

My Uncle Norm was a very special and unique individual. I so enjoyed spending time with him last summer at the cottage in NB, just the two of us. We went for long drives which he absolutely loved, visiting places from his younger years and then off to the ice cream shop every evening for a treat and a chat with the locals. We had great conversations and lots of laughs. Will miss you Uncle Norm♥️

Dear Jeanne and all the family, my thoughts are with you. Norm was a kind and caring human being. Everyone who had the pleasure to meet him was immediately drawn to his sense of humour and easy going personality. The world was a better place because of Norm.
Rest in peace my friend. Linda
Sad news, Jeanne. He was a good man.
