James "Jim" Walker, C/Supt (Ret.)

With heavy hearts, his wife of 63 years, Gladys, daughter Rhonda (Rob) and son David (Jean) share that their beloved husband and father, Jim, pre-deceased by his mother, Anne Wiernek (Andrew), passed away peacefully on September 8th at the Kemptville District Hospital from complications due to pneumonia, with family by his side and surrounded by visits from cherished family and friends throughout his stay. Big Jim will be dearly missed by “Best Bud” Brian and Lucy Culp and “Fairy Goddaughter” Krista Brosseau (Kevin and son Nicholas). Sweet Grandpa will be dearly missed by Sofia, Gemma and James. 

A proud retired member of the RCMP, Jim looked back fondly on his early years policing in New Brunswick before moving to Ottawa, where he worked in the pioneering field of fingerprinting at the Ident Branch. During this time, the Force sent him to Carleton University where he earned a Bachelor of Journalism. His career later took him around the world as Officer in Charge of the RCMP Musical Ride, followed by years of teaching and mentoring at the Police College. He concluded his distinguished service in public affairs at RCMP National Headquarters. He loved to give out RCMP Musical Ride pins whenever he met anyone new and always wore one on his ballcap. Following his retirement from the Force, he taught democratic policing to police forces throughout the Balkans. For Jim, it was always about the people he met and worked with. Many of his work colleagues became good friends to Gladys and Jim.

Beyond his career, Jim and Gladys enjoyed cruising and travelling. He also loved time spent on the water and on the golf course or at the cottage, treasuring many happy years with dear friends whether in Ottawa, his cottage, on his boat or during winters in Myrtle Beach and later in Port Charlotte, Florida. He loved a good laugh, was a warm and welcoming host and always up for a game of cards or visit to the Tiki hut in Punta Gorda.

He loved his hobbies, from stained glass and woodworking to painting and pottery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory to the Kemptville District Hospital, the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind, or a charity of your choice would be deeply appreciated.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  The family will be present to receive condolences on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 9:30am in the Sacred Space at Beechwood Cemetery, Funeral and Cremation Services with a memorial service being held starting at 10:00am.  The memorial service will be followed a reception in the Borden and Fleming Suites at Beechwood Cemetery, Funeral and Cremation Services until 1:30pm.
