1962-2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our precious Shelley at Perley Health on January 18, 2026 after a very long courageous battle with Dementia.  She leaves behind her devoted son, Ryan, parents David & Esther Ganderton, and her two cats, Dasha & Echo.

Shelley had a successful 33-year career as a Logistics Officer in the Canadian Navy.  She enlisted in the Regular Officer Training Plan, completed a BSC degree at Dalhousie University and served in various positions on the east coast including time in HMCS Preserver & HMCS Cormorant, as well as six months in CFS Alert.  In between all this she managed an MBA at St. Mary’s University and a final posting at NDHQ Ottawa.  She loved life, loved people, loved to travel, was a loyal friend and avid photographer.  Most of all she loved her son dearly.  Family was very important to her and she will be remembered by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

We wish to thank the staff at Rideau 2 South for the exceptional care Shelley received for the 55 days she spent there.  Our thanks to her many PSW’s with special mention to caregiver Mary G. for her compassion & dedication.

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at a later time.

Dear Ryan, Esther and David,

I had the pleasure to serve with Shelly and she was a wonderful colleague. I was fortunate to work along side her at NDHQ. She was a highly respected Logistician and I can attest she fought fiercely on behalf of the Navy. We shared many an eye roll across the table over the years which made meetings that much more manageable. Please accept my condolences on her passing.

My heartfelt prayers for you and the family - Shelley was not only a colleague but a friend who always there to support others, as she had supported me throughout the early years of my Naval career. I last saw her with you, Esther, in Manotick in 2014 while I was shopping. Shelley came back around the corner and said, “I remember you..” Her smile made me cry with joy; it was a bittersweet moment I shall never forget. I am grateful she had your support and the support of the Pearley team - all of you made such a difference in her life.

I have such wonderful memories of our time together in Halifax. Watching her deal with Sailors from Fleet when she was the Customer Services Officer, I knew she was destined to do great things in the Navy. My scrap book is full of joyful pictures of her during her time at Formation Logistics and we often crossed paths over the years. As a Board Member of the Perley, I am truly glad she made her way there. Please accept my sincere condolences for your profound loss. I will shortly post a wonderful picture of her!

Me and my wife were so incredibly sad to hear the news. Shelley and I did multiple courses together and she could always be depended on for a laugh, a smart-ass remark when it was most needed, and a shoulder when that was the important solution. We hope that you are held up in these times by hearing that her friends were fierce, and our love and respect for her could not have been more genuine. Love to you all.

My condolences to friends and family on Shelley's passing. Had the pleasure of working with Shelley several times during our careers, both in Halifax and Ottawa. Her positive energy and willingness to think outside the box helped move several important strategic initiatives forward. A consummate professional and a very nice individual - she will be missed.
