Loving mother of Bob Carver (Wendy). Cherished grandmother to Greg Carver (Christine), and Cynthia Gravel (David) and great grandmother to Arianna Gravel. She is also lovingly remembered by Christine Bailey, mother of Greg and Cynthia.

Special aunt of Douglas Hyde (Linda), Debbie Tremblay (Richard), Leslie Selwood (Lee), and Lindsay McLelland (Kim).
Pre-deceased by her loving parents Hyman Hyde and Virginia Bateman.

Mom grew up in old Ottawa East, her first 10 years in the midst of the great depression. Encouraged to leave school at 16 to get a job and contribute to the family income, she started her working life as a typist and stenographer.

She worked most of her adult life for the Canadian Labour Congress, eventually becoming the LE≻ Administration and Finance Officer. Her attention to detail and financial budgets was born out of a time when every penny counted to maintain a home for her and her son Bob.
She always loved doing her budget.
Her greatest accomplishment in her working career was the creation of the CLC’s Employee Assistance Program.

She travelled extensively through England, Scotland, Wales, and her ‘second home’ Bermuda.
An accomplished horsewoman, she also was an avid skin diver and certified scuba diver. Mom learned to sail on the unpredictable BC straits, and had a harrowing story of being caught in an unexpected storm.

Anyone who knew her over the years would say what a kind and generous person she was; quietly helping many individuals and charities. Her name is on many wells completed with her donations in Cambodia.

She wrote short stories about living in Old Ottawa East describing her childhood during the great depression, some of which were published in The Mainstreeter.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

There will be a reception in her honour at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services on April 30, 2026, from 11am-1pm.

In lieu of flowers Mom would have loved donations to go to The Shepherds of Good Hope or the Ottawa Food Bank.
