It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Elisabeth Sarkany, née Heuel, widow of Stéphane Sarkany, who passed away on August 24, 2025 in Ottawa, Canada, at the age of 94.
She is mourned by her daughters Marlis and Yvonne Sarkany, by her sisters Ingeborg Bӧnninghaus and Gisela Kremer, as well as their respective families.
A funeral service was held on August 29, 2025 in Ottawa with close Canadian family members.
A celebration of her life, with her ashes present, will take place in Aix-en-Provence for family and friends from France and Germany, on a later date to be shared with you personally.

My aunt Marlies has been inspirational to me during my twelve months stay in Ottawa many year ago. Although unable to stay in good contact to her, I admired Marlis for her wisdom and humanity. She will always have a big place in my memory. Rest in peace.

I am deeply saddened by the death of my dear and beloved aunt. We kept in regular and very pleasant contact during my one-year stay in Ottawa in my school days. I have fond memories of my many encounters with Marlies during that time. My thoughts are with her family and friends.
