It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elly Meister on October 14, 2025 at the age of 75. Elly was a loving wife and best friend of Donald Roy. Predeceased by Don, her parents Winnifrid and Aksel Meister, she will be deeply missed by her son Jason, her sisters Patricia (Andrew) and Helmi (Bill), nieces Cheryl (David) and Meagan, and nephew Jesse (Krista). Born in Leigh, United Kingdom, raised in Larder Lake, Ontario, and Wigan, Greater Manchester -  Elly made her life one to connect people. Ranking on the top 100 Lobbyists in Canada lists a number of times, she loved making connections and learning the story of everyone she met. Starting as a typist for a minister (priest) in Wigan, she found her way to Jasper Park Lodge, PR Director for Ottawa’s Four Seasons Hotel, the Director of Marketing for the Ottawa Congress Centre (now the Rogers Centre) which she helped open, then Vice President, Government Relations for the Canadian Automobile Association, then The Canadian Trucking Alliance, and finally Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada. Like her Estonian father, she was a passionate skier most of her life, and she would lovingly reminisce about her childhood playing hockey and baseball in Larder Lake. Remarkably passionate (read: obsessed) about doing everything herself; from sewing, plumbing, to handling anything short of electrical (and Thanksgiving cooking – her family might have had a few upside-down turkeys cooked), there was little she wouldn’t tackle. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Elly’s life at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa on Saturday, November 22, at 1:00 p.m. until 4:00pm with Eulogies to take place at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Alzheimer Society of Canada.

It was great having her family live up the street from us on 6th Avenue in Larder. Street hockey every day on our street. Great soul for sure.

To Elly‘s family particularly Jason
We are saddened to learn of Elly’s passing.

Eli was always a pleasure to be around. She was witty had a real spark. And boy did she love her baby Jason

I was impressed with Elly’s career after Jason was grown up.

Our sincere condolences

My deepest sympathy to Jason and the family. Elly was a dear friend to me. I met her through work and soon became the best of friends. I admired her tenaciousness, fearlessness and innate ability to pigeon hole anyone that she, in her role as director of government relations, felt needed to understand something about our organization. Our friendship extended far beyond work and created priceless memories, including of visits to the family cottage with Elly, her beloveds Don and Jason, and their pets. For this I'm very grateful. RIP Elly.

Jason and family

We remember the good times we had with both Don and Elly at 31 Mile Lake and Tremblant
The fun at Dinner parties and calamities that never slowed us down

As we age and health events slowed us getting together good memories cannot be erased

Stay healthy and well

Lots of great memories skiing with Elly in the late 50's and 60's in Larder. Great skier - competitive! She will be missed. RIP
