Sadly we mourn the passing of Marie-Josèphe Wall (Schingh) at the age of 86. Josée succumbed to her battle with cancer on November 18, 2025. She was born in Templeton, Quebec, on June 23, 1939.
Josée dedicated her career to caring for others as a nurse at the Ottawa General Hospital, where her kindness and gentle spirit touched countless patients and colleagues. Outside of work, she found joy in the simple moments—cross-country skiing outings, riding her bike, and strolling through her neighbourhood, where she was always ready to stop and chat with anyone she met, especially the dog owners. Josée enjoyed puzzles, traveling, attending theatre and opera performances, and watching her favourite classic TV shows (Columbo and Murder She Wrote) and movies. Josée deeply valued her Templeton roots and never missed an opportunity to attend a family gathering with either her own immediate family or her large extended family filled with numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins. She preserved long-lasting friendships from primary school, to convent school, to nursing college and regularly curated new personal connections.
She is survived by her loving sons, Pierre (Elaine) and John (Nathalie); and by her cherished grandchildren, Alexandre, Éméric, Zoë, Mackenzie, and Madison. She was predeceased (2020) by her beloved husband, Patrick (Peter), with whom she shared 56 years of happiness and companionship.
Josée will be remembered for her loyalty, friendliness, warmth, enthusiasm and love of the outdoors. Her family, and all who knew her will deeply miss her presence, but her spirit lives on in the memories we share.
The family warmly thanks the 6th Floor West Wing staff at the Ottawa General Hospital for caring for Josée during her cancer battle.
A celebration of life will be held at the Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue) on Sunday, December 14, from 1:00-3:00 pm. Please join us to share your fond memories of Josée. The funeral mass and internment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you kindly make a donation to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ottawa Mission.
