It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard (Len) Cameron, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29th, in his room at the Perley Health Veteran’s Residence in Ottawa.

Born in Trenton, Nova Scotia, in April 1935, Len was the son of the late Leonard and Johanna (Purvis) Cameron.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Oakley); his children Gary (Cindy Gervais), Shelley (Chris Evelyn), daughter in law Patricia (Greg), and Leonard - all of Ottawa; and his cherished grandchildren Joshua, Sarah, Adam, Melanie, and Ryan. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.

Len was predeceased by his son Gregory (Greg); his four brothers Cyril, Purvis, George and Al; his two sisters Mona and Thelma; and his parents Leonard and Johanna.

Len proudly joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1953 after completing high school in Trenton. His 32-year career took him across Canada and abroad, with postings in Gimli (Manitoba), London (Ontario), Borden, (Ontario) West Germany, Summerside (PEI), Trenton (twice), and Ottawa (twice). He retired from the RAF in 1985, at the rank of Captain. Len continued his service to Canada as a public servant at DND Headquarters in Ottawa for eight more years, retiring in 1993.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Perley Health Veteran’s Residence for their amazing support, especially over the past several months.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Beechwood Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 8th at 1:30p.m. at the Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa. Interment will follow at Beechwood National Cemetery.

The service will be livestreamed for those of you unable to attend.
