It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the sudden passing of Rick Scott, at The Ottawa Hospital – General Campus, on Thursday December 4th, 2025.

Born on May 16th, 1961 in Oshawa, Ontario - Beloved son of the late (2013) Muriel Scott (née Wallace) and Walter Scott, and only brother to the late Douglas Scott, who predeceased him only 18 weeks prior on August 6th, 2025. Loved brother-in-law of Jamie Cirka-Scott, and cherished uncle of Lynsie Scott Boyd (Kevin), Darryl Scott (Erika), and David Scott (Ashley). Proud great-uncle of Rowan & Declan Boyd, Atlas Scott, and Violet & Xavia Scott. Adored nephew of Katherine Myers (the late Maurice Fielder), the late Marjorie Tink (Walter), and the late Reg Wallace. Fondly remembered by cousins Brian Tink (Sophia), Lynette VanShyndyl (Terry), Kevin Tink (Lynette), and the late Jeff Myers, and their children. Forever missed by his life-long companion, Martha Broder.

Rick started his career in Ottawa with the Government of Canada in June 1985 after he completed his degree in electrical engineering at the University of Waterloo. Supervisor, technical specialist, and subject matter expert were all titles held by Rick over a long and rewarding career that spanned 40 years. Rick received several corporate awards of excellence, but his accolades went far beyond that. He was well known and respected for his engineering contributions by several other Government departments and agencies as well as international partners.

People close to Rick knew that he was a man of few words. If he was talking, someone was getting corrected, or he was making a joke. For many years Rick enjoyed curling in the winter and golfing in the summer. He also enjoyed playing cards and having dinner with friends. The Royal Oak Pub on Hunt Club was Rick’s home away from home. He was known by staff and regulars as always having the fish and chips and usually playing the virtual golf game, Goldentee. He will be truly missed by his Ottawa friends and colleagues.

Rick was a quiet soul, but family and friends were central to who he was, as evidenced by the countless photographs, cards, drawings, invitations, and cherished keepsakes he saved from those he loved, spanning many decades, proudly displayed throughout his home.Though his life was marked by simplicity and humility, he will always be remembered by those of us who knew, and loved, him exactly as he was.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date, when family and friends are able to gather together from all of his ‘home towns’.

Not one void but two in our family, so close together, is almost unbearable. I will forever ask "why" and miss you & your brother forever!

I started working with Rick in 1994 after transferring from a different section. A couple of years later, I started carpooling with Rick after a bus strike left him needing a ride. To contribute to the carpooling experience, Rick started providing coffees on the way to work via Tim Hortons, and the occasional beer after work. This worked out really well, so well in fact, that even after the bus strike ended, Rick never needed to ride the bus again. This went on for over 30 years.

As I stand back and reflect, I realize that I have know Rick for the majority of my career and adult life. Even after I retired and Rick did not, we continued to frequent the same social gathering with the same circle of good friends.

My sense of loss with Rick’s passing is profound.

Rick, thanks for the coffees, the beers and the memories. Rest in peace … my friend.

Sincere condolences to Rick's family and loved ones. For as quiet as Rick was, he was terribly funny, witty and a pleasure to spend time with. We both feel blessed for the memories. Rest in Peace Rick!
