It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edgar Newton, who died just after his 80th birthday. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Ottawa.

Born on April 1st, 1945, Edgar is now at peace and will be laid to rest near our beloved mother, Marilyn Joan Wright (d. 1998). Dad often said he wished to see her again — now he has gained his wings, and his wish has come true.

He is survived by his sons, Edgar Wright, Jason Wright, and Keith Newton, and his daughter, Angie Wright.

Edgar was well known in his community for his volunteer work with the Foster Farm Community Centre and Food Bank, where he made many friends along the way. Later, when his health limited his mobility, he could often be found in the lobby of his building, warmly greeting everyone who came through the door. He made friends everywhere he went.

He was a man of many names — Edgar, Burt, Newton, Grampy, Pops, and Dad — and he touched countless hearts with his gift for conversation and his genuine interest in others.

Though he didn’t have much in material wealth, Edgar had a big heart and was always willing to help those in need. His generosity of spirit, kindness, and selflessness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He gave freely of his time, his presence, and his compassion, and the world is better for it.

Donations in Edgar’s memory to the Dementia/Alzheimer Society or Parkinson’s research would be gratefully appreciated.
