It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Bolyea on 02 February, 2026, at the age of 48.

Born on February 22, 1977 in Toronto, Andrew was passionate about life and enjoyed many pursuits, including cooking, traveling, and sailing. He is mourned by his loving wife, Paula, and son Henry. He will be dearly missed by his mother Alie Bolyea (nee Bergwerff), his father, Paul Bolyea and step-mother Karen Fisher Deel. He will be fondly remembered by his parents-in-law, Ray and Marlene Toovey, step-siblings Lauren and Jeffrey (Lindy) and nephew Jack, brothers-in-law, Raymond and Eric Toovey, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Ottawa General Hospital Cancer Center and the Maison de l’Est Hospice for their dedication, support and kindness in treating and caring for Andrew.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Ottawa Cancer Foundation, or the Maison de l’Est Hospice in Andrew’s honour.

I had the pleasure of introducing Andrew and Paula to each other after seeing that they were both so deserving of finding love. I distinctly recall the text message Andrew sent me after their first date (brunch at Stoneface Dolly's). He told me how terribly the date went. I'm pretty sure Paula put him up to it but luckily he couldn't keep the story up for more than a few minutes.

After that, the two were inseparable. I saw how incredibly happy Andrew was to have Paula in his life. I may have teased him a little when he started coming to work with tiny lunches, which he proudly called "the hot portion" of his lunch, to go along with plentiful servings of raw vegetables.

Andrew loved building his life with Paula and his world was complete when Henry came along. Andrew loved his little family and was fiercely loyal to them.

I'm lucky to have had Andrew as a friend for the past 22 years and to have been witness to many changes in his life. He was always a good listener, offered thoughtful perspective, and cared greatly about those around him. I will continue to enjoy several recipes that he's shared with me over the years (baked beans, bibimbap), though I'm not sure I'll ever take my vanilla extract making quite as seriously as he did (sous-vide?!?)

Paula and Henry, I know you will always treasure the time you had with Andrew. I only wish you had had more. He loved you both so deeply and appreciated every last minute he had with you.

Andrew will remain in our hearts forever.

Dear Paula, Henry, Alie, Paul, Karen, Ray, Marlene, and the entire family,

Though I never had the privilege of meeting Andrew personally, I learned of his courageous battle and passing through his loving aunt Tily Nelson. Reading his obituary and the heartfelt tributes here has touched me deeply—his passion for cooking, traveling, and sailing, together with the steadiness, kindness, gentleness, and unwavering loyalty so many have described, paint the picture of a truly rare and remarkable man who brought light and support to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

My heart aches for you all in this profound and unbearable loss, especially for you, Paula and Henry, as you navigate life without him. Please know that you remain in many thoughts and prayers during this heartbreaking time.

With deepest sympathy,
Diane Carriere
