Catherine Sylvia Christ (née Brown) passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, in Ottawa, at the age of 95.

Born on January 8, 1930, in Grimsby, England, Sylvia lived a life marked by grace, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. Her long life spanned nearly a century of change, and through it all, she remained a steady presence — wise, kind, and deeply devoted to those around her.

Sylvia was the beloved mother of Stacey Christ, Gregory Christ (Lydia), and Pamela Bennett (Ward). She was a cherished grandmother to Spencer, Callum, Myles, and Leila, whose lives she touched with warmth, humor, and a listening ear. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Cynthia Shard, and her brother, Peter Brown.  Catherine was predeceased by her parents William and Catherine (née Snell) Brown and her late husband Jacques Christ.

Known for her gentle spirit and quiet strength, Sylvia was a woman who led by example. Her wisdom and compassion enriched the lives of all who knew her. Whether sharing stories over tea or tending to her garden, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures and passed that appreciation on to her family.

Sylvia‘s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many staff at the Ravines retirement residence who cared for Sylvia over the last four years and especially over the last several months as her health declined. Sylvia appreciated all of you and was grateful for your kindness.

In keeping with Sylvia’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sylvia’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
