It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. John Edward Kindle on July 23, 2025, surrounded by his three loving daughters. He was a devoted father and grandfather, a compassionate physician, an inspiring mentor, and a cherished member of his community.
For more than 50 years, Dr. Kindle dedicated his life to medicine, treating each patient with kindness, dignity, and exceptional care. Whether working in hospital wards or welcoming patients to his family practice, he was known not only for his clinical expertise but for his humour, warmth, and unwavering empathy.
A proud graduate of Queen’s University’s Faculty of Medicine, Dr. John fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. His passion for helping others shaped every aspect of his work and endeared him to colleagues and countless patients. Beyond his practice, he made a lasting impact through medical seminars, volunteer work, and working in community health clinics. He leaves behind a legacy of care and compassion.
Outside of his professional life, John was a man of many joys. He was a supportive father and grandfather, he loved comedy, music, travel and fishing, and was a caring friend to many. His laughter and humour lit up dinners with family and friends, his wisdom comforted troubled hearts, and his guidance and advice touched those he met.
He is survived by his sister, Penelope McIntosh; his brother, Dr. Geoff (Lorraine) Kindle; his three daughters and their spouses - Tricia (Vijay) Chand, Carline (Justin) Rocks, Christina (Gareth) Pocock and his six cherished grandchildren: Mikayla, Harrison, Scarlett, Phoenix, Miles, and Edwyn, who adored him.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and care teams that provided incredible support over the last few years, including those at the OGH Cancer Clinic and the care providers at La Maison de l’Est hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dr. Kindle to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation or La Maison de l’Est hospice would be welcome.
A memorial service will be held at Beechwood Cemetery on September 6 at 1pm, followed by a reception until 4pm to honour a life beautifully lived. Kindly RSVP to drjohncelebration@gmail.com to help us plan accordingly. We also invite you to share any memories or photos, which will be cherished and shared with all who loved him.

I was so saddened to read about John’s passing. I have very fond memories of many years of working with both he and Gitta in their Ottawa office. I enjoyed watching his girls grow. He was truly a special person. Sending hugs to all of you. ❤️

Dr Kindle was a remarkable person, his memory will remain with those of us who had the privilege of knowing him.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the funeral as I'm currently away due the recent passing of my mom. I wish I could be there to pay my respects , you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I just found out about Dr.John Kindle passing. On behalf of the Charles Family in Ottawa and across Canada; please accept our sympathy
Dr. John Kindle was our family doctor for over 35 years. We loved him and he attended many of our family functions. We had never met a Docter like that before who took the time to care and answer questions from a black family....he was 100% genuine, he stood out. He always directed us above and beyond to get the best health results if we were ill. Oh what a loss indeed. We are so sorry we missed his sunset memorial service. RIP Dr.John Kindle. We are better individuals because we met you on this life journey. Your life was a blessing to us!

I am saddened to hear of cousin John's passing and offer condolences to his family. I spoke most recently with John a dozen years ago; too long, but we were separated by distance (Washington State vs Ontario). I wish the best to his daughters and brother Geoff.

We will always remember dr John kind & thoughtful & always had time for a discussion to solve the issue. We were sad to hear the news Rip best doctor we’ve known
I had the privilege to know Dr John For more than four decades. He was my mother's doctor first and then became mine. I can tell you he was exceptional. My last employment was at the Waterford Retirement home, And one day I saw him come in, He was visiting his former patients to see how they were.. Unbelievable, And if you new john, how busy he was took the time to do that. I can't say enough good things about that man, But one thing I can say is that he will be greatly missed by everybody that knew him. I had the privilege to shake his hand one last time on July 22.
