Major (ret.) Robert Edward Joseph Grandmaison passed away peacefully at home December 20, 2025, at the age of 84 following a brief illness. Predeceased in 2018 by his wife of 51 years Erma (née Hardy).
Loving father to Danielle and her husband Paul; David and his wife Kim; and Peter and his wife Rachelle. He was a wonderful Grampy to Cass, William, Julia, Leo, and Finn. He will be greatly missed by his siblings and their spouses: Adele and Brian, Jim, Claudette and Bob, Fred and Linda, and Richard. He was predeceased by sisters Delaine, Liette, and Yvette. He was a beloved brother-in-law to Lois, Sandra, and Donna and was predeceased by their spouses Wayne, Eric, and Paul.
Robert was born in Kirkland Lake Ontario to Ralph and Germaine Grandmaison. Following his father’s death when Robert was 12, he continued school and worked to help support his mother and siblings. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at age 17 as a navigator. He retired after 39 proud years, finishing his military career at CFB Trenton. He then worked over a decade as a certified financial planner. He made countless friends throughout his life due to his warm outgoing personality, generous heart, and humour. He and Erma moved to Kemptville where he enjoyed his final years golfing, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and expanding his circle of friends even further. Janet Graham was a cherished companion in his final three years.
Should you wish, in lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Kemptville’s Seniors’ Community Services Meals on Wheels programme or Lupus Canada.
