With faith in Jesus’ promise of eternal life, we announce the passing of Maria Assi on February 4, 2026, at the age of 63, surrounded by her family. Born in Lebanon in 1962, Maria built a beautiful life in Ottawa, where she touched countless hearts with her warmth, generosity, and infectious spirit.
Maria was full of unconditional love and devotion to her beloved husband, George; her three children; and six grandchildren. She enjoyed a distinguished career as Director of IT at Shared Services Canada, where her leadership, care, and expertise left a lasting impact on both her colleagues and the organization. Maria’s greatest joys were traveling and sharing life’s adventures with her family.
Maria will be remembered as an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was deeply loved by all who met her and left an incredible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness, strength, and vibrant presence will be deeply missed. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Perley Health and the Cancer Centre at The Ottawa Hospital – General Campus for their exceptional care and support.
Maria is survived by her devoted husband, George Assi; her son Maroun Assi (Vedrana; children Jacob, Victor, and Philip); her daughter Roxane Marjaba (Ramzi; children Castiel, Lucas, and Ruby); and her son Alexandre Dominique “Aleco” Assi. She is also survived by her brothers Ghassan El-Asmar (Roxane and family) and Maurice El-Asmar (Chantal and family).
Her memory will live on in our hearts. She will always be remembered for her love of life and family, and for her contagious laughter and beautiful smile.

Maria was more than a cousin to me — she was like my little sister.
We grew up side by side, sharing precious childhood memories that I will treasure forever.
Maria was a true hero. She fought with incredible strength and dignity, accepted her pain without complaint, and became a source of inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Her courage, kindness, and quiet strength will never be forgotten.
May God bless her soul. She will live in my heart forever.
