It is with deep sadness that the family of Marie Chamoun (née Melki) announces her passing in Ottawa on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the age of 97, peacefully and surrounded by her adoring family.
Marie was predeceased by her beloved late husband Youssef Chamoun, cherished son George (Colette), treasured grandson Andrew (Vanessa) and dear brothers and sisters Elias (Eugénie), Alice, Esther (George), George (Hayat), Samira (George) and Farah (Elham).
Marie is survived by her loving children Georgette (Mounir), Amal, Chamoun (Colette), Emile (Mona), Elham (Tony), Jean (Gloria) and Elie. She will be dearly missed by her 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as Teta Maro, as well as by her nieces, nephews, friends and family members, in Canada, Lebanon and around the world.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the Maison de l’Est Hospice team for their kindness and compassion, and for the great care they provided to Marie in her final days.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, February 1, 2026, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Beechwood Cemetery, Funeral, and Cremation Services, located at 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Melkite Catholic Church, located at 1161 North River Road, Ottawa.
In Marie’s memory, donations to Saints Peter and Paul Melkite Catholic Church or the Maison de l’Est Hospice would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
