After a life well-lived, our beloved mother Mary de Bellefeuille has died at the age of 94 at St-Vincent’s Hospital in Ottawa. Mary was the cherished wife of Dr Paul de Bellefeuille (d. 2003) and loving mother to Marc (Luci Rizzo), Jean (Filomena Morgado), André (Carrie McKinnon) and Julie (Gerry Heney). Mary was an affectionate and doting Grandma to Julien, Renée, Anick, Karine, Nicolas, Patrick, Marc-Alexandre, Stefan, Paul and Zoé, and was thrilled to welcome her great grandchildren Adrien, Hayden, Zelda, Stella, Elliott, Romy and Kamila into the fold.

Mary was predeceased by her siblings Bruno Carrera, June Chase and Angus Carrera. She leaves to mourn her sister-in-law Barbara Carrera.

Mary was known for her elegance, her kindness and warmth, her compassion, her generosity, her appreciation of art, her love of nature, and her strength of character. Always welcoming and gracious, one couldn’t help but feel better in her presence. A warm and open individual, she made good friends at all stages of her life, most recently at New Edinburgh Square.

Mary was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and shared a special connection with her dear niece Annick de Bellefeuille. In recent years, Mary grew very close to her cousin Teresa Ferrante, a relationship she treasured.

We would like to thank the caregivers and medical professionals whose kindness and compassion helped to ease Mary’s final weeks, in particular Dr Jessica Roy of the Regional Palliative Consultation team and Dr Grace Warmels, Katherine, Donna and Coralee at St-Vincent’s.

Mary’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, November 30th at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Ave. Friends and family are invited to gather from 9:00am in the Visitation Suites. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am in the Sacred Space, immediately followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Médecins sans frontières would be appreciated.

I am so very sorry to hear of dear Mary's passing! She, together with her husband Paul, were such warm and kind people. I am the adopted daughter of their friend Christine Simon, who also left us exactly 3 years to the day before Mary did. Mary and Paul will always be deeply treasured in my heart.

So sorry for your loss. I will always remember Mrs de Bellefeuille growing as a close friend to Jean and spending so much time at the house on Kilborn Ave. She was so kind, welcoming, generous and beautiful. She will be in my thoughts for weeks to come.

My wife (June Saunders) and I were friends of Mary's sister June Chase. Through that friendship we had the pleasure of getting to know Mary through the occasional group luncheons together. I was saddened to hear of Mary's passing. I do hope that the family is able treasure the memories that they have of Mary. You will be in my thoughts at this most difficult time.
