Passed away peacefully at St. Patrick's Home in Ottawa on February 3rd at the age of 97. Muriel Bernice Webster Stewart was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, William J. Stewart. She was the proud mother of Louise, Susan (Dan) Pearce, Allan (Heather), and Maureen (Rick) VanSickle; proud grandmother of Ryan, Caryn, Kayleigh, Andrew, Christopher, Jamie, Tabria and Tynan; and great-grandmother of Madelyn, Andrew, Aleana, Savannah, Kaia and Kipp. Survived by her sister-in-law Joan (Robert) Stewart, Muriel was predeceased by her daughter Sandra (Rick) Foyston and her sister Audrey (Bazil) Underwood. Muriel grew up on a farm in Saugeen Township, Bruce County, Ontario. In the 1950s she lived in Campbell River and Chilliwack, and in 1959 moved to Ottawa. A private family Graveside Service will be held at a later date in the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery located at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). A special thanks to the staff of the Dublin wing of St. Patrick's Home, who took such good care of Muriel for many years. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Patrick's Home of Ottawa Foundation.
I'm saddened to learn of Mrs. Stewart's passing. During my pre-teen and teen years, I spent many happy hours in the Stewarts' home and neighbourhood or tagging along on some of their family outings. I remember that she had a real gift for engaging with and interacting with people, certainly with young people but no doubt with people of all ages and in all sorts of circumstances. The years of pandemic lockdowns in particular must have been very hard for her.
Deepest sympathies to Louise, Susan, Allan, Maureen and their families.
