Raymond Sibbald, fondly known as Ray, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024 shortly after his 85th birthday in Ottawa.  Raymond was born in Penetanguishene, Ontario where he lived with his wife Alfreda Sibbald (nee DeVillers) on Anne Street.

Raymond was the third child of John (Jack) Oliver Sibbald and Marjory Sibbald (Piitz), his older siblings being Arthur (Ben) (deceased) and Vera (deceased). His younger siblings are Gerald, John (deceased), Patricia (deceased), Sharon, James, Bruce, and Deborah.

At the age of 17, Raymond joined the airforce as a jet aircraft mechanic to help support his family.  After many years in the trade, Raymond returned to school and obtained his teaching certificate. He taught auto mechanics at Eastview, and later Innisdale high schools in Barrie, Ontario for 23 years.

When not at school, Ray and Alfreda enjoyed boating and cottaging with their friends and family on Georgean Bay.   After his retirement, Ray looked forward to his morning coffee hour at the Penetanguishene dock lunch where he kept in touch with the events of the town and the local community.

Raymond will be greatly missed by his beloved Alfreda, his son Christopher, his daughter in-law Ann Marie, and his grand children Stephanie and Liam.

I’ve just learned of Ray’s passing - so sorry to hear that. My sincere condolences! I fondly remember teaching with Ray (I was next door in the Woodworking shop), and visiting Ray and Alfreda at the cottage and on Anne St.
Chris, he thought the world of you! I only met you once, but can understand why! I hope time and good memories have been good to you. Best regards to Alfreda and to you and your family, Chris!
