“Determined is better than stubborn.” Susan Elizabeth MacIntyre lived by those words, and those who knew her would agree they summed her up perfectly. A woman of strength, humor, and heart, Sue will be forever remembered for her resilience, her love of family, and, of course, her unforgettable peach pie.

Sue was a fighter in every sense of the word. She faced cancer with courage, determination, and grit—meeting each challenge head-on and never backing down. She passed peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the hospital staff for their compassionate care during her final month.

Sue was the beloved wife of the late John Douglas MacIntyre, and cherished wife of Wayne Lugg. She was the devoted mother of Tori MacIntyre (Dave) Beaman, and proud grandmother of Johnathan Beaman (Taylor Gibson) and Gillian (David) Fish; and loving mother of Brent (Lisa) MacIntyre, and adored grandmother of Ella and Adair MacIntyre.

Born in Ottawa to Norma and Douglas Usherwood, Sue met her first husband, John, during a church social at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, and they married on October 7, 1967. A lifelong learner, she trained as a teacher and took time away from the classroom to raise her children before returning to teach for over 20 years. She was a gifted educator who brought Canadian history to life, inspiring countless Grade 8 students to see the past as something vibrant, funny, and relevant.

In retirement, Sue poured her love and energy into her family, meeting and marrying Wayne later in life. She and Wayne travelled widely, exploring the four corners of the world, but her greatest joy was always being “Grandma.” She embraced the role with enthusiasm and imagination—soothing skinned knees with “magic chocolates,” creating adventures through grandma trips out West, down South, and across the Maritimes, and making each grandchild feel truly special.

Sue was also a gifted artist and a generous soul. Whether crafting-stained glass, stitching intricate needlework, or donating her time and talents to countless fundraisers and causes close to her loved ones’ hearts, she gave freely and with love. Her creations—each one a reflection of her patience and care—will be treasured keepsakes for her family.

Sue will be remembered for her warmth, her wit, her wisdom, and her uncanny ability to reassure anyone in need that “What can I do to help? Everything will be okay!”

A gathering for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, followed by a private graveside service for family. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.

One loving, witty, strong soul who lived life to the fullest. Offered freely, Sue's gift of laughter and conversation always had ways to endear her to anyone she met and provide wisdom, guidance and support to those who chose to listen. A beautiful person gone too soon. Your battle here is complete--rest in peace and comfort, Sue. Sending love and hugs to all.

Wayne, The two of you fought the battle that is associated with this horrible disease with courage and determination together. We are both glad to have met, enjoy your company, and have the many laughs with both Sue and yourself. She will be greatly missed. Each time Lianne will touch a piece of glass, she will be thinking of Sue. We hope that our prayers will bring you some comfort at this challenging time.
