Honouring Loved Ones Through Beechwood’s 2026 Seasonal Flower Bed Program
As spring approaches in Ottawa, Beechwood Cemetery is preparing once again for one of the most visible and meaningful seasonal traditions on the grounds: the annual flower bed program.
Each year, families choose to mark the resting place of a loved one with a carefully maintained bed of seasonal flowers, creating a living tribute that adds colour and life throughout the summer months.
For the 2026 season, Beechwood is now accepting both renewals and new purchases for seasonal flower beds. This program has become an important part of how the cemetery supports families in remembering those who came before them while also maintaining the beauty of the grounds.
From early June through mid-October, Beechwood’s horticultural team prepares, plants, and maintains flower beds across the cemetery. Throughout the season, the team provides regular care including watering, fertilizing, edging, and general maintenance. The result is a landscape that remains vibrant and welcoming for families, visitors, and the broader community. Seasonal flowers offer something unique within a cemetery setting.
They provide a living symbol of remembrance, something that grows, changes with the season, and offers a quiet moment of reflection for those who visit. For many families, returning throughout the summer to see the flowers in bloom becomes part of their personal tradition of remembrance.
Beechwood is honoured to help families create meaningful places of remembrance, and the seasonal flower bed program plays an important role in keeping the cemetery vibrant during the summer months.
Families who wish to renew an existing flower bed or purchase one for the 2026 season can do so online through the Beechwood website. To ensure inclusion in this year’s planting schedule, orders should be submitted before May 15, 2026.
Visitors should note that flower beds are not permitted in the National Military Cemetery, including Sections 64, 42, 111, and 102.
Through thoughtful landscaping and the care of families who participate in programs like this one, Beechwood continues to reflect its role not only as Canada’s National Cemetery, but also as a place for the living — a space where remembrance, history, and community come together.
