Join us for an evening with the Khayrhaye Somali Cultural Museum Centre, where we will explore and celebrate the history, culture and heritage of Ottawa's Somali Community. Beechwood Cemetery Foundation is proud to welcome Hersi Osman and Kaltoun Mussa, directors and historians at the Khayrhaye Somali Cultural Museum Centre.

Khayrhaye Somali Cultural Museum Centre has carefully selected several unique artifacts to share as part of the evening. Each artifact tells a story of the community and how the Kharyrhay Somali Cultural Museum Centre has worked to preserve and save them for generations.  

  • When: April 25th 2024 - 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Where: Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue.

Refreshments and desserts will be provided after the presentation. 

Khayrhaye Somali Cultural Museum Centre: It is a centre located at Rideau Community Hub Unit 123. Currently, it's the only cultural and museum in Canada focused on the preservation of traditional Somali artifacts. The mission of Khayrhaye is to preserve and teach the Somali culture from our food, language, artifacts, and way of life.

  • Hersi Osman - Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. Hersi studied Business at Carleton University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business. Currently, a photographer/videographer in Ottawa and a director for the Khayrhaye Somali Cultural Museum Centre.
  • Kaltoun Mussa- Born and raised in Borama, Somalia. Kaltoun studied Accounting at Sedam University in Mogadishu, Somalia and graduated with a Bachelor's degree. In 1990, Kaltoun came to Canada and lived in Ottawa since then. Currently, Kaltoun works for the Somali Centre for Family Services as an Outreach worker for Somali seniors and is a director at Khayrhaye Somali Cultural Museum Centre.
