It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Bolyea on 02 February, 2026, at the age of 48.
Born on February 22, 1977 in Toronto, Andrew was passionate about life and enjoyed many pursuits, including cooking, traveling, and sailing. He is mourned by his loving wife, Paula, and son Henry. He will be dearly missed by his mother Alie Bolyea (nee Bergwerff), his father, Paul Bolyea and step-mother Karen Fisher Deel. He will be fondly remembered by his parents-in-law, Ray and Marlene Toovey, step-siblings Lauren and Jeffrey (Lindy) and nephew Jack, brothers-in-law, Raymond and Eric Toovey, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Ottawa General Hospital Cancer Center and the Maison de l’Est Hospice for their dedication, support and kindness in treating and caring for Andrew.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Ottawa Cancer Foundation, or the Maison de l’Est Hospice in Andrew’s honour.
Words can’t express the loss of yet another young cousin to cancer. Andrew was like a brother to our family and born only a few days after my brother.
The world lost a mild-mannered, strong, great cook, avid sailor, down-to-earth, intelligent, humble, chivalrous man.
Andrew entered the world with a significant physical disability. He overcame CP and walks well today because of sheer determination. This was achieved with the support of a persistent, medically minded mother and the great mental determination of a young boy. It is said that a soul who chooses a disabled body chooses to evolve their soul more quickly, gains their “soul’s goal,” reaching enlightenment sooner. There is no doubt Andrew would have chosen such a path. A path of love and deep understanding.
I’ll miss you, dear cousin — and I’ll chop my carrots the way you showed me. The fancy angled kind cut on a diagonal.
