In loving memory of Natasha Sita Anderson (Perera), born on September 16, 1977, we celebrate her life and mourn her passing on February 1st, 2024, surrounded by her family after being suddenly hospitalized and overwhelmed by a rapid onset and inexplicable physical illness. Natasha was a compassionate soul, radiating unwavering love and empathy for all.

Though her life was taken from us, her beautiful soul is everlasting. Natasha found solace in her friends and family, both in person and in her virtual community. An avid reader, she immersed herself in the world of literature. Natasha was an ardent advocate for the underdog, dedicating her efforts to equity and fairness in all her pursuits.

She leaves behind a cherished legacy embraced by her beloved family: husband Mark, children Lena (11) and Makai (8), brother Hershel, sister-in-law Julie, and nephews Krish and Aary. Her parents, Asha (Sam) and Hiran (Lizzy), were integral parts of her life, each contributing to the extraordinary spirit she embodied. In addition, her extended family, including loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, played pivotal roles in shaping the rich tapestry of her life.

Natasha's friendships stood as a testament to her generous spirit and genuine care for others. Her friends were not just companions but her chosen family, each holding a special place in her heart, forging bonds that transcended mere friendship.

As a heartfelt tribute to Natasha, we kindly request that you play "Adore" by Prince on your own time—a song that beautifully encapsulates the enduring beauty and love she brought into our lives.

Friends are invited to gather at the Sacred Space of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa on Friday, February 9th, after 12noon. A celebration of Natasha's Life will be held at 1 p.m. followed by a reception in her honor.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Natasha's name to the Canadian Children's Literacy Foundation.

As we bid farewell to her physical presence, let us carry forward her legacy of love, kindness, and joy. Though she may be absent in body, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.

Tash, we may never have met in person, but your warmth, love and caring came through so powerfully. It may have been books that connected us, but you truly became my friend and my bookish big sister. I’m so sad we never got that big in-person hug, but I know I’ll hug you again someday. All the prayers for your family right now.

While I never had the pleasure of meeting Natasha in person, she had an abundantly beautiful, warm, delightful energy in all of our Book Instagram conversations. I don't know how she conveyed such warmth, positivity and friendship over Instagram, but she sure did it! Natasha was such an encouraging, kind, delightful soul who opened my eyes to so many wonderful reads, captivating discussions and lovely new friends. Gone way too soon, my thoughts and prayers are with Natasha's beloved family. I will be thinking of her every time I open a book <3

I feel very lucky to have had the honour of having Natasha as my friend. Although I haven't seen her in years as we moved to different cities, we have always stayed in touch online. She had a way of making you feel special and loved. I will forever cherish the memories of us and our group of friends. My prayers are with Natasha's family and other friends at this time.

My beautiful Tash, it was an honor to get to know you and connect with you through our mutual love for books. You’ve helped me so much and I will never forget that. You were the most generous, kind, empathetic and caring person who were filled with so much love. I will always remember and cherish the conversations we had together about life and books. Your positive energy has helped me overcome so many obstacles and I am forever grateful for that. Sending my thoughts and support to your family and loved ones during this challenging period. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Tash, I can’t believe you’re gone. A lot of people say online friends aren’t real friendships, but you proved how wrong that is. Your kindness, empathy & humour radiated out of every message we exchanged, and every interaction with others in the book space. I loved our chats about books, but I loved our chats about life in general even more, and I’m going to miss you so much. When I was in hospital, you always messaged to see how I was going & send me kind wishes… Tash, you were a gem that shone brightly & illuminated so many.

My sincerest condolences to all of Tash’s family & friends 🩵

Natasha was undoubtedly one of the most supportive people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She constantly checked in on me and always sent positive energy my way. She was like a big sister to me, even though we never met in person. She was so open about her life experiences with me, so forthcoming with advice when it was needed and I could tell that she genuinely wanted the best for me in every regard. I immediately noticed her absence and was heartbroken when I heard the news. I know that the impact she has made in our lives in the bookish community will be a lasting one, and I am sending all of the love, comfort and my deepest condolences to her husband, children and family during this time. Natasha, I love you my angel!

Tash, you were truly an angel on Earth. The reminder that you don’t have to meet someone face to face to feel and know how genuine they are. Outside of our love for books, I loved the passing of stories about our sons who share the same name, Kai Kai. I’m so appreciative of your kind words when I needed them and the encouragement you provided. Whenever I read Kennedy Ryan I will forever think of you. My prayers and heart goes out to your family ❤️

I’m not sure why I’m here…

I’m not sure why I’m here writing because the truth is that the shock has yet to subside. My beautiful Tash, fourteen years ago wedding colors and the same wedding date would connect us. I knew you were special right away. Your encouragement, your love, your support, your beauty and your light radiated through every interaction and you proved to be one of the best women I’ve ever known. I don’t have sufficient words. We’ve been through so much on opposite ends of the physical world, but never very far in heart and spirit. That will remain. A person I don’t know sent me a random video today about the dash between the birth date and the death date being the most important. I can hear you laughing now and telling me that maybe that’s not so random! You lived and loved your dash of time well. I love you more than I’ve ever shown. My heart will never be the same and your spirit will never not be enormous in the lives you’ve touched. Fly high, say hi to Matt, we’ll see you again one day. ❤️
