Glenn Andrew McGuire, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away suddenly surrounded by the love that defined his life. Born July 4, 1961, in Westmount Quebec to Donald and Jean McGuire, Glenn grew up with a generous heart and a ready laugh that stayed with him his whole life.

A proud and dedicated soldier, Glenn served multiple overseas tours including Cyprus and Afghanistan with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) and the Intelligence Branch. Those who served with him remember his steady courage, his quick wit, and the energetic strength he brought to every challenge.

Glenn’s greatest joy was his family. His wife Kathleen (Kathy) and daughter Hayley were his world; he treasured every moment with them and filled their lives with laughter, warmth, and unwavering devotion. He is also survived by his siblings, Michael (Jane) and Erin (Mike), nieces Marissa (Anthony), Sarah and Gwen, and nephews David, Christopher (Laura), and Matthew, and by extended family and many dear friends whose lives he touched.

Glenn will be remembered for his wicked humor, his love of (and frustration with) the Leafs and his enduring passion for golf and the friends who came with it. He learned to love figure skating in support of his precious Hayley, despite never truly learning the proper names for most elements. He leaves behind countless memories—stories, smiles, and the example of a life lived fully for those he loved.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Glenn’s memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command Poppy Trust Fund.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 1 p.m. in the Sacred Space of Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, located at 280 Beechwood Avenue in Ottawa. A reception will follow. Those unable to attend the service in person, may attend virtually via live stream by accessing this link.

Interment in the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood will take place at a later date, when the grass has greened for the season.

My deepest sympathies to Kathy and the family. I truly enjoyed working with Glenn at the school and his great sense of humour. Our encounters in recent years reminded me that Glenn always had a smile. He will be missed.

In Loving Memory of Glenn McGuire

Glenn McGuire was a devoted husband to my cousin Kathleen (Kathy) and a loving, proud father to Hayley. Our families’ roots are woven together with years of shared memories, stretching back to childhood.

As children, my cousin Kathy, her father Peter, and I grew up close. Peter—my father’s brother—served in the Canadian Forces and was stationed in Ottawa. Like families do, we travelled to our nation’s capital to visit one another, and later they came to the cottage in Muskoka. Summers, visits, laughter, and time spent together built memories that remain dear to my heart.

When the family moved to Germany, staying connected became harder in a time before technology made distance feel smaller. Kathy and I became pen pals, writing to one another from afar. When she was 18, we stayed in touch, and at 18 she began dating Glenn. Soon after, they married. Through the photographs that arrived in the mail, her wedding felt like a fairytale—full of joy, love, and promise.

When they returned to Canada and I met Glenn for the first time, what stood out immediately was his devotion—to his country, to his family, and to Kathy. His love for her was undeniable. A running joke in the family was that much of what Glenn did for the army was “top secret,” and we weren’t allowed to know the details. It always made us smile.

Then Hayley came along, and Glenn found a new, profound love to share with Kathy. He was so deeply proud of his girls. Watching Hayley skate was magical for him and —her figure skating career undeniable, following beautifully in her mother’s footsteps. His joy in her was unmistakable.

Glenn’s service to our country, and to others around the world, was a true sacrifice. His many overseas tours came at a cost—not only to him, but to his family. Kathy shared openly about the real struggles that followed his deployments. The perseverance, the resilience, and the work of healing after service are sacrifices too, and they should never be forgotten. We are forever grateful for all that Glenn gave, and for the strength Kathy and Hayley showed as a family through it all.

Thank you, Glenn, for your service, your love, and your legacy.
Thank you, Kathy and Hayley, for your courage, strength, and grace.

To Kathy and Hayley: please know that you are deeply loved and supported. As you walk through this unimaginable loss, may you give yourselves patience and grace. Glenn will always be with you, just as Uncle Peter & Aunt Mary are always with you. Missing him will last a lifetime—but so will the memories.

My prayer is that those memories bring you peace, comfort, and eventually smiles through the tears. May this loss draw you closer together, strengthen your bond, and remind you of the love you share. Glenn would have wanted that.

And may the day come when his memory brings a smile to your lips before a tear to your eye.
